Sunflower Farmers in the Sebei Sub region have commended Ngetta Tropical Holdings for her remarkable contribution in the oil seed sector which has seen hundreds of farmers reap big from sunflower production.
The Chief Executive Officer of Sebei Farmers saving and Credit cooperative Society Phelix Kwemboi says sunflower growing has given his members a break through as many now earn millions of shillings.
With the support of superior hybrid sunflower cultivar Agsun 8251, extension services and guaranteed market for their produce, Kwemboi says they have all it take make more money through farming.
As a result, Kwemboi says many young people have been attracted to engage in sunflower farming because of its high profitability level.
The chairperson of Bunambatye Area Cooperative Society located in Bulambuli District Robert Kutosi (39) says the intervention by Ngetta Tropical Holdings has help change many lives because there has been enormous increase in the income of the small holder farmers.
According to Chekwoti Jabeth (35) a board member of Sebei Farmers SACCO an acre of Agsun 8251 sunflower Variety in Kween yields between 800 to 1000 Kilograms which translates to 800,000/= to 1000,000/=
The partnership between Ngetta Tropical Holdings and Sebei Farmers Saving and Cooperative Society Limited came to full scale after the two entities penned a memorandum of understanding.
Sebei Farmers have a registered membership of three thousand farmers in the districts of Bulambuli, Kween and Kapcwora.
The Chief Executive Officer of Ngetta Tropical Holdings Paul Omara on his part asked the farmers to seize this opportunity to accelerate their growth. Omara says the company is committed to ensuring that the small holder farmers gain immensely from sunflower production.
